Brinda Karat


This Communist has many achievements in the sphere of politics to her credit. Having given up a job with Air India in London, she returned to India in the early 70s to work for the communist cause. Her early work focused on trade unions. In 2005 she became the first woman member of the CPI(M)  politiburo. She has also been general secretary of the All India Democratic Women’s Association and its Vice President as well. An outspoken politician, Brinda is also the author of Survival and Emancipation: Notes from Indian Women’s Struggles.
