The erstwhile leader of the Bahujan Samaj Party and four time Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh is not a woman to be trifled with. While it was her bid to better the lot of Dalits that propelled her to the top in UP politics, she lost the last assembly elections and resigned her position as BSP leader as well. Currently a Rajya Sabha member, there is no denying her impact on the politics of UP. Mayawati’s attempts to gain personal glory and accumulate wealth have frequently been criticized, but her followers continue to repose faith in her.
