The Chief Minister of West Bengal is also the first woman to hold the position in the state. Didi, as she’s called, founded the party All India Trinamool Congress in 1997 after breaking away from the Congress. In 2011 she pulled off a landslide victory for the TMC Congress alliance in West Bengal by defeating the communist government there. Mamata Banerjee has earlier been the country’s railway minister. Her political style is unique and frequently grabs the headlines for that reason.
