Jayalalithaa has followed in the tradition of Tamil Nadu – going from being matinee idol to the top rung of politics. Now in her third term as chief minister of the state, this feisty woman is, in turn, admired and feared for her tough ways. Even detractors have to agree, though, that she is highly intelligent and extremely well-informed. It takes more than just those qualities to survive in the male-dominated world of Tamil Nadu politics and J Jayalalithaa certainly has what it takes.
